Week 13 - 21 Nov. 2013 Class challenge

This week the class had 3 hours to design tree signs for campus, including determining how many signs they can afford in the given budget, and what will be on the signs.  John Kelly and Reuben were the project managers.  And the class successfully completed the project!

Group presentations on Dec. 5

Each group has 10 minutes to present the project they worked on throughout the semester.  You need to sell your project, convince the sponsor that he should spend his money on you.

Everyone must speak.

You must include the following:
1.      Your name and who you are with.
2.      Your project title.
3.      Why there is a need for this project.
4.      The tasks to accomplish the project.
5.      How much time this will take.
6.      The budget and why.

Graded on –  Did you address each point?
                        Did you stay within time?
If the phone of anyone in your group rings, you will lose points.

The class will have 3 minutes to ask each group questions.

Week 11 - 07 Nov. 2013 - Budgets and resumes

We discussed Pastor Jesse's lecture about integrity, and what integrity in the classroom means.  We discussed an example of cheating on an exam, and students were in general agreement that the example did represent cheating.

Create your personal monthly budget.
On your 4 week spending report:

1. For each total for categories of food, transportation, internet/cell, clothes, other:   (not med or university)
            Calculate 10% of that total
            Subtract that from the total
Add up the 10%s – that is how much they could save each month

2. Start a new sheet with each category on it.
Under each category write the previous month’s total minus 10%.
Each time you spend, write it down, and subtract from the total.

GOAL – stay within the amount you write in the top.  If it looks like you will exceed – DO NOT spend!

This is the purpose – to limit your spending so you can save for the future.

Resumes and CVs
We discussed what American universities and employers look for in a resume and wrote down details to include in our own resumes.

Week 10 - 31 October 2013 Biblical ethics and integrity

Pastor Jesse Easley lead the class in the following discussions:

Four characteristics of a Christian professional or business person.  Be able to define these.
-Character
-Purity
-Respect
-Integrity

Refer to Proverbs 9:1-12 and describe how it relates to life and work.  A Christian professional should be able to receive instruction and learn from it.  Are you a people of wisdom or fools?

What are 3 reasons that people walk without integrity?
-Scared to offend others
-Guilty and have something to hide
-Lazy

Describe a person who has integrity and one who lacks integrity.

What is the point to say you are a Christian, you go to church, you attend a Christian university but no one can tell by your behavior that you are in fact a Christian?
